Check out this quick video about a surprise I got from our friends at Virgin today

You’ll see that Sir Richard Branson is doing a great job through Virgin of showing by example great example of cross branding, ethical web marketing, adding value to customers, surprising, sharing and more.

The video is short but worth a watch and a lot of valuable ideas and models are shown in and through the video.

I also think it’s the wrong question to ask but still one that many of us ask.

Have you been at a meeting, a party or a networking event and asked that?

It’s all too easy to fall into the trap of focusing on people as “jobs”.

For ten years I worked in investment banking and there the answer that I was an Auditor, a Structurer, and Investment Manager to some extent fulfilled the option of putting me into a “pigeon hole”. People like to do this, it helps us catagorise information which is a more and more important trait in the modern Information Age.

I’ll set out more of what I do another time, but just consider and think about how much more you and than just your job.

Being able to get to know people deeply and properly and make a real connection is an invaluable skill.

The joy of Facebook is that we all appear connected, and see more of the connected world that was often invisible.

The challenge is to remember, that there are real people behind the “posts”.

Care of Facebook, I was able to connect with a published author Edel O’Mahony, she has an interesting story and a background that covers many areas.

However her story is similar to many people that are lucky enough to come across my work and what I really do.

She has been inspired by what she can do to help others, and has a clear vision of where she wants to get to. She is a natural “Star” profile (see Roger Hamilton’s work”).

However despite all the right intentions, and a huge amount of work, she has not yet had the success she deserves, and more than that she hasn’t been able to help as many people as we’d have liked.

In a short few hours we were able to address some of the key mindsets that are essential in really getting results, the right approach to web marketing (a la www.WebTyrant.com and www.WebDomination.com )

Edel has spent a large amount of money on courses, workshops and “coaching” programs, but they havent’ been practical enough in my view, and more than that, what she has realised (as many do unfortunately) , is that sometimes the despite the promises and apparent successes, not all people are able to teach what they know, or even know what will make a difference over time.

Edel know has a clear sense of 1) her menu, 2) the key elements to get right for her web activities and 3) the need for a her team to be formed and get into motion.

I was becoming increasingly aware of the importance to our business of developing a ‘joined-up’ internet marketing strategy to develop more leads through social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Linked-In when I met Simon Hedley.

I attended Simon’s workshop with an open mind, not quite clear what I would achieve – and my expectations were exceeded by a long way…

Simon clearly is a master in this field – highly knowledgeable, articulate, passionate and business savvy at the same time. His has the ability to cut through the jargon, without patronising and helped all of the attendees (including me) develop an internet strategy to create leads into the business in a fun-packed, interactive way.

More than that, he demonstrated that SEO is just one small element of an all-encompassing strategy.

I left at the end of the workshop feeling confident and empowered having created a twitter account, a blog account and understanding how these fitted into my overall business strategy.

I am confident that this new found knowledge and skill will payback many times over, now and in the future in generating new leads and new business.

We’ve also been able to build joint ventures and strategic alliances which we hope will stand the test of time.

What are the key components?

1) Well first is staying in Postive and not taking things personally - easier said than done – especially as you start to play a bigger and bigger game (though as they say, there is “Magic in Thinking Big”). Happy Thoughts App will help with this and actually was derived and built on some of the training I’d had over decades of martial arts, human potential work and working in banking.

2) Remaining in Communication

When things come up, the first step is to always remain in communication. That means not judging, or making rapid decisions, and also being responsible. It’s all too easy for people to lash out on email and not remain focussed on what actually matters.

Most people are intelligent and self-responsible. There are often more impacts than we realise.

This is improved when people are real partners 50/50 or 30/30/30 or real vested in the outcome. All too often however contractors or service providers are not stake holders in their clients and I think that is a shame.

We are clearer now on how to build apps that get a great result, accomplish their goals and have a legacy and base for the future. We look forward to showing you what we have planned.. with TUI and TUE.. watch this space..

One of the highlights was meeting up with Donald Trump at Trump Tower in New York. It’s a great example of www.TheSuccessSpiral.com and I hope you enjoy this true story.

I was in New York for the #140 Conference, where I was helping my friend/client Lynn Rose launch a new project (http://www.everybodytweet.com/) , and had originally planned just a short trip.

I mentioned it to a few of my network, and they asked if I could extend my trip, so a 3 day trip became 7, and then out of the blue, I got an email from a good friend Bill Walsh (Who’d I met about six months earlier via the launch of Alex Mandossian’s London events – on the back of a client attending a workshop and connecting us), which in short said, “Can you stay in New York for a few more days?” and “Do you want to meet Donald Trump?” Well of course the answer was yes, after years of hearing about the man who has singlehandedly shaped a lot of industries and also the American (and Global) view point of business/entrepreneuralism, meeting him properly face to face was something on the list.

I’ve known and been mentored by friends and contacts who had trained Donald Trump, and also worked with and for him, and I had a good sense of the man, and anticipation.

The spiral nature being that the meeting only happened through what looks like random events, but was it inevitable that we’d meet at some point? I would think so given the larger initiatives I’m working on and inside of, and the mutual contacts, but it’s a large world some days and a small world on others.

The fact that I was able to extend my trip without really thinking about it, and be flexible enough to take advantage of both this opportunity and the others that came out of the trip, stemmed from the approach I’d spent over a year building and a benefit from building web based and systemised businesses that don’t rely on an hourly “J.O.B” approach.

The other point that stood out for me was that Donald Trump was as you can expect being approached by lots of people for photographs as part of the ubiquitous photo calls that I can imagine follow every “celebrity” who has been on American or International Mainstream T.V.

I had my trusty Canon 5D Mark II (see www.WorldsBestCamera.com) as I was enjoying my trip and my passion for photography in the summer sunshine. (The iPhone 4 or Kodak Zi8 are my usual walk arounds – The Best Camera as my photographer friends remind me is “The One You have With You” ).

My biggest memory from the day was Mr Trump wanting me to take the shots and run things “Get Him Do it, He’s The Professional”.

The nature of the man was someone that’s confident and certain in what he wants and how he’s getting there. And a great reminder that the first step is always Certainty

This was one of the points that stands out in 2010, and I look forward to sharing other highlights and moments with you later.

Consider what you are thankful for in 2010, and the events that came good from your trusting your instincts, and going for what you really wanted.
