			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Following a challenging week in London, that has highlighted the fragile nature of much of &#8220;modern society&#8221;, it&#8217;s clear that there is a need for a wider understanding of truly Ethical Business.</p>
<p>What do I mean by Ethical Business?</p>
<p>Well it sounds obvious but in reality there is a big disconnect between common sense, and what occurs.</p>
<p>For me based on what I&#8217;ve seen over the last few decades, it&#8217;s clear that Ethical must include looking after the best interests of your customers and clients for the long run. It also includes looking after the well being of the wider community that the business operates inside of.</p>
<p>When every business owner, employee, and supplier realises that there is a holistic business world in which we all operate inside of, then there is a new opportunity to work more strategically and transparently.</p>
<p>If you have ever had to wait in for an engineer that has never arrived, or if you&#8217;ve ever heard an excuse from a supplier that really doesn&#8217;t take ownership for what has happened, then you&#8217;ve experienced the contrast.</p>
<p>There is an old phrase &#8220;Treat others as you would be treated&#8221;.</p>
<p>I look forward to the day when we all do this and it becomes our natural state and thoughts.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Several years ago I used to work in Investment Banking, for one of the smartest men I ever met, Shahzad Ahmad. He understood where I added value, massive value, and how to leverage that intelligence and focus to create sustainable profits and net asset value for the business.</p>
<p>The key was to &#8220;Structure&#8221;.</p>
<p>We weren&#8217;t traders taking on risk positions, or arbitrage opportunists, however we did understand those aspects.</p>
<p>Working for Shahzad, I built systems that 1) solved a problem/added value, 2) we simplified the process down to it&#8217;s key components and 3) we industrialised them.</p>
<p>That may not sound sexy, and looking at a 200 page legal contract for the fifth time is not what I&#8217;d cal fun. </p>
<p>However, there is an upside.</p>
<p>Once you think this way, you apply it everywhere.<br />
Once you build this way it keeps running &#8211; on autopilot.</p>
<p>I left ABN Amro and RBS over three years ago, and the systems I built are still running. At one point I personally managed over €1bn a day, and that role that was a full time focus can now be (and is being done) in minutes.</p>
<p>Having moved into working with business owners and marketers, I used the same approach, and the industry is taking note and moving.</p>
<p>One such next step is the idea of &#8220;Evergreen&#8221;</p>
<p>Before things were done once &#8211; a live radio interview, a product launch, a webinar .</p>
<p>No the intention is to leverage that work, optimise the results and maximise the potential</p>
<p>I ran a workshop on Follow Up Mastery and Infusionsoft mastery two years ago, with Micah Mitchell, James Lavers, and people like Simon Coulson in the audience. Two ears on they are using what they learned and I have the recordings which are still highly relevant and valuable today.</p>
<p>My friend Mike Filsaime is a great example of Evergreen. He&#8217;s worked to systemise his business and also come up with some great technology solutions to automate routine tasks.</p>

<p>I was becoming increasingly aware of the importance to our business of developing a ‘joined-up’ internet marketing strategy to develop more leads through social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Linked-In when I met Simon Hedley.</p>
<p>I attended Simon’s workshop with an open mind, not quite clear what I would achieve – and my expectations were exceeded by a long way…</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>It&#8217;s a cold Saturday in London, as I write this, but the kind of day, that makes you feel good to be alive, and aware of what&#8217;s really important. I spent the morning with my mum, cooking lunch and looking at what the plan was coming.</p>
<p>I caught the trailer for a major TV show tonight, and realised that one of the stars is a friend who went travelling a few years ago. We met when I helped a mutual friend with preparations for London fashion week, and with photography which is one of my passions. It&#8217;s funny how small the world can be.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m also reminded again of the lesson that seems to come and get real, then often, get forgotten &#8211; Everything Happens for a Reason. It&#8217;s all too easy to get fixated on the expected results, and what we think will happen.</p>
<p>Today has seen &#8211; an email from a business partner on new start up opportunities in London (which is one of our passions), possible venture capital funding for several projects through extended networks, as well as the need to get robust teams in place to run the foundations of what many people are building.</p>
<p>Sometimes we&#8217;re ready to take these &#8220;omens&#8221; or &#8220;signs&#8221; and run with them, sometimes they just go by. Either way, the fact that our routes to where we are now are filled with chance encounters, twists and turns, is hard to escape. I published The Success Spiral earlier in the year, and so far the first few thousand people to review it have noticed a big impact (though subtle). <p>I&#8217;m allowing myself this moment of lucid thought, as today is intended to be a &#8220;day off&#8221;, though as I&#8217;ve shared a few times, I don&#8217;t believe that &#8220;balance&#8221; actually exists in the conventional pie-chart hours on/hours off approach.</p>
<p>When you&#8217;re playing full out, and able to go with the flow, then you can take advantage of what comes up much more easily. The caveat being.. it&#8217;s important to know when to say NO.. and that&#8217;s something that many of us, don&#8217;t like to do..</p>
<p>WIth that said.. I&#8217;m going to go follow up on some earlier commitments and continue to see where this spiral rollercoaster takes us tomorrow..</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>How often do we focus on things which we think are the most important, but that don&#8217;t produce the results we really want?</p>
<p>Often it&#8217;s possible to get fixated on a &#8220;barrier&#8221; or headache, that we think is the key problem we need to solve, and work harder and harder with less and less results.</p>
<p>In the last few days I spoke to over a dozen people in different industries and states of development (Including someone with international exposure and celebrity fans who hasn&#8217;t had the results they wanted for months and years) Again and again,  the key take away was not lack of intelligence, skill or resources.</p>
<p>In the last month we have found and recruited 3 new key players to our team and the results we&#8217;re seeing internally are non-linear, i.e. they are a quanta forward in terms of elegeancy, efficacy and have provided a real foundation for what&#8217;s next.</p>
<p>That was only possibly through what my friend Graham calls &#8220;3D Thinking&#8221; or &#8220;Pi Thinking&#8221;.</p>
<p>Being able to get enough distant and perspective to see things differently, while remaining conscious of the Whole System nature of what is happening is an essential part of moving to a more &#8220;orchestrating&#8221;/&#8221;conducting&#8221; style of business.</p>
<p>We are 2 days into the launch of a friends product and it&#8217;s exciting to see the domino&#8217;s starting to fall. 2 months ago, the results that were planned for were far below what has happend and I think for any business producing turnover in excess of 25% of the normal annual turnover from one launch is good going, and we are not yet finished.</p>
<p>As we grow, we need to focus on what really matters, what will really make a difference, and it is not always the most &#8220;loud&#8221; to do item.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>When you learn to run long distance and you want to run a 10k race.. how do you train?</p>
<p>As a child, I was naturally into life, and trying out as much as I could. I didn&#8217;t like to train, but I had good results.. (I sprinted off to win the &#8220;Novi Cross Country&#8221; at Tonbridge School &#8211; much to everyone&#8217;s shock (and my own..)</p>
<p>Looking back on this, I see the same lesson with business, life and fitness/sports..</p>
<p>That is to Go the Extra Mile&#8230;</p>
<p>It&#8217;s 1am when I write this post after one of the most stressful weeks of my life. But I&#8217;m &#8220;happy&#8221; and here because I&#8217;m committed to making the results for myself and others that I committed to do.</p>
<p>I am doing more than I need and training myself to operate that way, I am also ensuring that we are over the line with room to spare. This is building the foundation for myself, my partners and clients to have a great decade, even as the market and business world declares breakdown.</p>
<p>If nothing else, life has shown me that there can always be a solution, if we can be creative enough and bring the right people and team together.</p>
<p>This week, I didn&#8217;t throw in the towel, but went the extra mile, and a big part of that was to do with my <a href="http://www.simonhedley.com/mastermind-groups/">Mastermind Groups</a> that I&#8217;ve built up and been part of in some cases for over twenty years.</p>
<p>So.. What is my point?</p>
<p>Whatever you want to do.. you can.. if you are prepared to go the extra mile..<br />
And if you want to master running 10k races.. you train to run 12k or more..</p>
<p>So what are really focussed and committed to doing?<br />
and are you taking the necessary steps to set your bar hirer and go that extra mile..</p>

<p>is quite insightful and highlights the point that many people forget which is looking at peoples operational, tactical and strategic objectives in any business deal.</p>
<p>If the underlying core values are not aligned, then everything that comes afterwards, will be off. Now even if that&#8217;s just be one degree. It&#8217;s still enough to leave many &#8220;partners&#8221; frustrated in the long run.</p>
<p>Where a lot of focus is made upfront, and real alignment or as we say &#8220;Strategic Alliances&#8221; are formed, then things become easier in our view.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m sure we&#8217;ll see more talk of Super Angels and the other pro/cons of Private Equity, and VC groups in the coming months and years, and the cash flow liquidity and risk averse nature of the financial markets continues.</p>
